Yes "Deer", he's eating healthy!

I'll never understand why men buy into a hunting lease that's clear across the country. What's wrong with neighborhood deer?

Sunday morning, before God was even up, Fred, Corbin and Mark (Fred's childhood buddy and current client) set off to Bandera, Texas to "do something" at the deer lease. "Do something" is my term for whatever it is Fred told me people do at a deer camp in May before deer season. Bandera is west from Houston, about 5 hours so I loaded Corbin's iPod up with cartoon shows so he would remain in somewhat of a coma and not ask "are we there yet" every 5 miles.

Three hours into the trip, Fred loaded him up with something else:

No need to worry about a coma with Mountain Dew and Sour Patch Kids candy in a 58 pound body. You will, however, need a crow bar to pry him off the roof of the truck! This kind of a purchase never would have happened with a mother along!

Corbin was excited to shoot something......anything...

That pour water bottle never stood a chance!

Here's the men checking out the camp house:

No, they did not bunk here....instead they spend a night of luxury at the local Comfort Inn!

A scenic end to yet another of a a 9 year old boy's favorite days with his dad!

And the winner is...

The kids had a taekwondo tournament Saturday here in Houston. Corbin had 2 incredible fights (he's the one in blue) and won both! The person most vocal on the video is a fellow taekwondo mom by the name of Missy. Missy is our cheerleader and for good reason. No matter what mat any kid is fighting on, no matter how far away, Missy's voice can carry all the way to them!

We are so proud of how far he has come in this sport. He even got in a few head kicks, though the last one was a kick to the other boys' face...ouch. He said the boy turned his head and he couldn't help it.

The second boy he fought was at least a foot taller than him but he stayed tough and did not let the heighth difference intimidate him! The most appropriate "reward" for a 9 year old? A big bag of candy and being allowed was allowed to sleep on the couch and watch cartoons past his bedtime!

Gabbie won both her fights (as usual!), but the matches were so uneven all she basically did was stand in one place and throw her long legs out every now and then!

At The Hop!

Here's Corbin posing with two of his classmates on the day of the sock hop dance sponsored by PTO. This was my last "big" event as president before I head off to lazier pastures at Northland Christian Elementary.

It's a little sad for both me and Corbin that he will not finish his 5th grade year with his familiar classmates, but the move is the best one to make. I am looking SOOOOOO forward to stepping down from a leadership position and simply doing what someone tells me to do "every now and then"!

Sock Hop was a HUGE success and my feet still hurt from "dancing the night away"!

Oh....I forgot to mention I dressed up as well. Give me ANY occasion to be "incognito" as someone else and I am all over it!

A work of art..

Had to share this stunning photo with you. Sadly, it is not one of mine but I appreciate the beauty of it regardless and aspire to reach this level one day!

Straight to the hips!

It's a Twinkie, that's chilled and then deep-fried in tempura batter and oil for 2 minutes. The cooking process melts the vanilla-cream center, which infuses the yellow cake and gives it a souffle or pudding-like texture. Finally, the treats are sprinkled with powdered sugar.
I think I gained a pound just writing that.

Here's the break down:

1 Twinkie = 150 calories (alone)

Batter and oil = 275 calories

Total Damage = 425 calories

A few Saturday's ago, Fred and I went with 2 couples to the annual Crawfish Festival just around the corner in Old Town Spring. Other items were on the menu besides mudbugs; corndogs, roasted corn, sausage on a stick, GINORMOUS turkey legs and tempting sweets such as funnel cakes and the above mentioned fried twinkies.

Niki (my friend in the middle) and I decided to split a funnel cake AND a twinkie...less glutenous that way. Mmm, mmm good! No, not just good... decadent, irresistible, scrumptious, and did I mention 1 bite can go straight to the thighs in less than 30 seconds?

So, even though Niki and I shared the twinkie, I still need to factor in half of the funnel cake which is 380 calories, add it to half of the calorie count for the Twinkie which adds up to approximately 600 calories that I consumed in less than the time it's taken to write this entry!

Whose up for fried oreos next year?
